About the business
Welcome to The Townhouse, a place where Stratford’s history and contemporary hospitality meet. Our boutique hotel and restaurant occupy a gorgeous 400-year-old timber-framed building on Church Street, just around the corner from Shakespeare’s Schoolroom and Guildhall. Stepping through our door is like stepping into the past – you’ll notice the sloping floors, exposed beams, and leaded windows of the original 17th-century structure – yet we’ve carefully updated each of our 12 en-suite rooms with modern comforts and stylish décor. No two rooms are the same: one might feature a deep free-standing bath perfect for a luxurious soak, another might have a cozy window seat overlooking the bustling street. Downstairs, our gastropub-style restaurant and bar is a local favorite. We serve classic British dishes (and a few inventive twists) using fresh, locally sourced ingredients – whether it’s a full Warwickshire breakfast or an indulgent Sunday roast, you’ll taste the quality. We’re proud of our selection of local ales and fine wines, making our bar a lovely spot for both our guests and Stratford locals to mingle. Community is at the heart of The Townhouse: we often host quiz nights, live acoustic music, and special wine tasting evenings, keeping our historic walls filled with laughter and cheer. Our team’s philosophy is simple: treat every guest like a dear friend visiting our home. We’ll happily carry your bags up the quirky old stairs, share tales of the building’s history (ask about the ghost story!), or recommend the best time to catch the sunset over the river. The Townhouse offers an intimate, authentic Stratford-upon-Avon experience, where history, hospitality, and community shine in equal measure.
